Marvel One-Scoops - Designer Toys

Artist & Art Director

This series is a highlight for me. I was raised on superhero cartoons, junk food, and ‘The Far Side’ comics, so when I pitched this off-centered idea of melted ice cream anti-heroes, I was surprised and excited to get the green light to make them.

The idea behind the ‘One-Scoops’ Designer Toy Series is it’s an homage to the ‘Marvel One-Shots’ series of comics, but you know... if the characters were ice cream cones. I have lots of memories of excitedly chasing down ice cream trucks on my bike when I was growing up, only to be met with a face on my frosty treat that only sort of resembled the character. I, like many others, always thought that was hilarious and charming. For these pieces, it was really important to me to make the cones removable, because I wanted people to be able to hold them and play with them and be taken back to when they were a kid.

In development I worked hand in hand (pun maybe intended) with the manufacturing project manager to advise and give draw over notes to help capture the playful attitude in the final 3D sculpted pieces. The packaging is meant to feel like an ice cream package pulled right out of the freezer at a novelty treat store. Initial ideas were more ambitious trying to recreate a cylindrical Dreyers ice cream packaging, but due to budget and timelines we scaled down to a traditional box but still retaining the fun elements of the characters.
